The Illinois Arts Council Agency  was created as a state agency by the Illinois General Assembly in 1965 through legislation sponsored by Senators Paul Simon, Thomas McGloon, and Alan Dixon. The agency is governed by up to twenty-one private citizens chosen for their demonstrated commitment to the arts and appointed by the Governor. Council members serve in a voluntary, non-paid capacity and are charged with developing the state’s public arts policy, fostering quality culturally diverse programs, and approving grants expenditures. A small professional staff with in-depth knowledge of the arts develops and administers the agency’s programs, provides technical assistance, and ensures the responsible and impactful distribution of all funds. Resources to support the Illinois Arts Council Agency are provided by the Governor and General Assembly of Illinois and the National Endowment for the Arts. The Mission is: To build a strong, creative, and connected Illinois through the arts.

Guident Business Solutions LLC

"Guident Business Solutions is a management development firm dedicated to guiding the successful growth of organizations through the sharing of knowledge and teaching of key business practices."

Guident Business Solutions, LLC was founded in February 2009 by Gary Vaughan.  He spent his entire career teaching – both in the classroom and in business. Having spent many years in business himself, including being a business owner, Gary realized that there was a need for additional training among business owners; there was a lack of some of the fundamentals needed to run a successful business – understanding financials, human resource practices and management skills, to name a few. Although it would be ideal if owners could attend classes to learn these best business practices, in reality they do not have the time. Seeing this gap between running a business and learning how to run a business, Gary decided it would be ideal if the training could come to the business owners. He formed Guident Business Solutions, LLC to address that need.

Millikin University has one of the leading multi-disciplinary arts entrepreneurship programs in the country, utilizing three student-run ventures and two learning laboratories within the fine arts to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Artists are passionate about what they do. Passion is the key ingredient in Entrepreneurship. Students within the arts are generally focused entirely on their craft and often form a sort of "knowledge tunnel" within their area of study. Becoming an expert in a craft is absolutely necessary. But what happens when artists graduate?
